Alfred Uhry's funny, touching and poignant Pulitzer Prize winning play spans some of the most tumultuous years in American Civil Rights history.
The place is the Deep South, the time 1948, and the rich, crusty and sharp-tongued 72-year-old Jewish widow Daisy Wertham has demolished another car. Her businessman son, Boolie, hires Hoke, a thoughtful, unemployed black man to serve as his mother's chauffeur. The next 25 years show a story of stubbornness, independence, and the gentle evolution of a most unlikely friendship.
