The Victorian Dance Ensemble, performing troupe of the Civil War Dance Foundation will be at the Museum to demonstrate dances of the era and celebrate the season Civil War style. Afterwards, visitors will be invited to learn a dance and join in the spirit of the season. During the Civil War, balls were popular at Christmastime and were often used in the North and South as fundraisers for the war effort.
The Ensemble will also display original photographs, newspapers and Victorian jewelry from members' collections. Other displays will include a gift box sent to soldiers by civilians and a period tabletop Christmas tree, with homemade ornaments. Museum guests will also have an opportunity to try on reproduction Civil War era clothing.
